WHAT WE EAT
Wellspring Australia has a unique approach to food that is very different from any “diet” you may have tried in the past. This is because scientific research is very clear: if you’re feeling deprived, you cannot possibly sustain a pattern of healthy eating, and you will return to former habits sooner or later. So Wellspring trains you to love foods that taste and feel very similar to the foods you’re used to eating, but that are going to help you lose a great deal of weight.
Wellspring offers very low-fat, low-calorie density foods. There are two types of foods: controlled foods (entrees and snacks) and uncontrolled foods. For instance, if chicken burgers with baked chips & vinegar are the controlled foods, campers still have an unlimited choice of uncontrolled foods, such as fat-free yogurts, cottage cheese, egg salad, tuna salad, fat-free soups, vegetables, fruits, salad items and condiments. Uncontrolled foods are important, because they ensure campers aren’t feeling deprived, and they provide an opportunity for campers to practice self-monitoring (i.e., regulating) their intake. Wellspring’s outcome studies demonstrate that self-monitoring and self-regulation are keys to successful long-term weight control.
Campers receive three meals and two snacks per day. Total calories in the controlled food: 1,200 per day. But campers have access to uncontrolled foods as well.
